What Can You Bring on Your Abaco Island Flight?
When it comes to traveling internationally, many people aren’t sure what they can bring, how to pack efficiently, and most of all, how to avoid extra hurdles at the airport. The long lines from customs, security, and money exchange can be dreadful. The extra fees from luggage add-ons can stop you from bringing back keepsakes from your destination. The last thing you want to do before an exciting vacation overseas is stress – and that’s why Air Unlimited strives to make your traveling experience hassle-free. We explain the benefits of flying with Air Unlimited and what you can bring on your Abaco Island flight, below:
Air Unlimited is unlike your typical airport experience. Upon arrival at our private hanger in Sanford, guests are greeted with free valet parking and a relaxing lounge area. There is no crowded security lines or TSA members rushing you along. The best part, you only have to arrive 30 minutes before your flight is scheduled for take-off.
When you fly with Air Unlimited, you are allowed to bring your own alcohol to enjoy on the islands upon landing and you can pack water bottles for the plane ride. You can also bring up to 40 pounds of luggage for free, so you can pack for your trip without too much worry. It’s also important to note that you will need to bring cash, since credit cards are not accepted in most places on the islands.
After take-off, you will arrive at either the Treasure Cay Airport or the Marsh Harbour International Airport, depending on your travel plans. Bahamian customs officers will check your bags, but you should know that you can bring any items that are in compliance with the FAA regulations. You can find a list of FAA regulations here.
The saying “take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footprints” is a great rule of thumb when it comes to your time on the islands. Keep that in mind as you explore the beautiful beaches that are covered in sea shells and native plants. There are multiple national parks in the Abacos that protect the land and water that they inhabit. These areas are protected by law, and there are hefty fines for those who try to take home some of nature’s gifts.
Once you arrive back to Sanford, your bags will be checked by U.S. customs. A great travel tip is to keep any receipts from your trip that can help report the amount of duty-free purchases that you’re returning with.
Let Air Unlimited show you how easy flying internationally can be. Book with us today for an exciting Abaco Island flight!

National Aviation Day: From History’s First Flight to Today’s Boutique Airline
A dream between two brothers has given the opportunity to billions across the globe to see the world and all of its endeavors from sky-high views. Over a century has passed since the Wright brothers, Orville and Wilbur, flew the first-ever airplane in 1903. National Aviation Day on August 19 celebrates not only the remarkable progress in aviation since their first flight, but also the birthday of Orville Wright. Here at Air Unlimited, we celebrate National Aviation Day with our boutique airline services, offering passengers incredible flight experiences, educating them about aviation and inspiring future generations of pilots and air crew.
The Wright brothers invented the first successful airplane, Flyer I, which was able to stay aloft for a total of twelve seconds and cover a distance of 120 feet. We have come a long way since Flyer I, an all wooden aircraft covered in finely-woven cotton cloth and an aluminum engine. Today, our boutique airline is proud to service flights with our two Beechcraft King Air 200 air carriers and our Cessna Citation CJ3 jet. Both of these vessels feature advanced avionics technology, unprecedented comfort and safe passage. Our CJ3 even offers Wi-Fi at an optional charge, allowing passengers to stay connected while in the air.
To celebrate National Aviation Day, Air Unlimited wants you to consider taking a journey into the past, present and future of air travel. Below, are some of our tips for enjoying the day and recognizing the gift of aviation.
- Take a Destination Flight
- Seek the view the Wright brothers worked so hard to achieve – the bird’s eye view from the sky. Aboard a luxurious flight and fly across an array of blue seas to land in the ultimate Caribbean paradise. To make sure your trip is hassle-free from start to finish, Air Unlimited offers quick reservations, free valet parking, fast check-in, short lines and a comfortable, private waiting area. In flight, each of the nine seats feature window-views and plenty of leg room. In just over an hour, you’ll land in the beautiful and tropical Abaco Islands.
- Learn More About Aviation
- To learn more about the history and future of aviation, visit a local aircraft museum or science center featuring planes. If you’re feeling adventurous and visiting the Washington D.C. area, see the Flyer I at the Smithsonian Museum. Consider checking out aviation books at your favorite library or renting an exciting aviation movie. You could even take an introductory flight lesson.
- Inspire the Future Generation Pilots
- Many of today’s pilots became fascinated with aviation at a young age. At Air Unlimited, we hope to inspire the young passengers with our Junior Pilot Program. Registered kids fly in the cockpit with the pilot, experience stunning views from the front of the plane and learn about air travel. These kids walk away from their aircraft charter or commuter flight with a certificate, photos, a souvenir, and their very own pilot wings.
No matter how you choose to spend National Aviation Day, we hope you can celebrate the wonder of flight on this special holiday! Fly with us today to experience a boutique airline and celebrate National Aviation Day!

Bring Your Furry Friend on an Abaco Getaway with These 5 Tips for Pet Travel
Nothing is better than a relaxing vacation with all your loved ones. When you book an Abaco getaway, you are booking a fabulous beach vacation for every member of the family, even the four-legged members. We know traveling with your pets can seem daunting, but if you are prepared, it really is a breeze. Here are some of our tips for bringing your pets on a flight, whether it’s flying to the Abacos or traveling to a different destination:
- Visit your veterinarian. – Make sure you plan a vet visit a few weeks ahead of your trip. Your vet will make sure your pet has all of its vaccines and will sign a health certificate, which is required for travel on many airlines. Every state adheres to different policies, so make sure to do your research to ensure you don’t miss any important steps leading up to and during your trip. Additionally, your vet can also provide you with tips for keeping your pet calm during the flight.
- Plan ahead. – Receiving the correct documentation and confirming flight arrangements can take time, so it’s always a good idea to book in advance. If you are flying to the Abacos with your pet, you can learn more about the process and what you will need on The Government of the Bahamas website or at Bahama’s Pet Permit. Additionally, some airlines have a limit on the number of pets allowed per flight and reserving ahead of time can guarantee your furry friend a ticket before they sell-out. Don’t forget that you should also pack your pet’s favorite toys, treats, and necessities into an easily accessible bag the night before you leave for vacation.
- Think about meal time. – We all know that travel is a nightmare when we don’t feel well, and the same goes for our pets. Because of this, it’s a good idea to avoid feeding your pet a large meal right before boarding the plane to prevent an upset stomach. Also, make sure they have something to chew on during take-off and landing. This will help prevent their ears from popping and will make them more comfortable.
- Schedule play time before travel time. – Travel time can make for a long day for our furry friends, so make sure you schedule some time for your pet to run around and play before you head to the airport. This will help them release their energy, and a tired pet will rest easier on the plane.
- Fly direct, whenever possible. – Layovers are already inconvenient but imagine trying to manage a pet through a connecting flight. As bad as the wait is for you, it’s even harder for your pet. If possible, try to cut down your pet’s total air time and travel time by booking direct flights.
Flying with Air Unlimited makes taking your pet on an Abaco getaway easier than ever. Two pets are allowed on board per flight and are welcome to relax in the cabin space with you. If your pet is more energetic, they can fly on a close harness or in a pet carrier next to you. Once you land, you and your four-legged friend will be well rested and ready for fun in the sun. Call us today for more information at (407) 585-4300.

Take Your Kids on an Abacos Vacation
Summer is quickly approaching, so kids will be out of school soon and ready to spend more time with friends and family. Take advantage of this long-awaited break by booking an Abacos vacation with Air Unlimited. We offer a top-notch flight experience to some of the Caribbean’s most unique island destinations, perfect for the whole family.
The Bahamas has hundreds of islands, but instead of going to the overcrowded and commercialized areas, take your family to the relaxing and intimate islands of the Abacos. Here, your kids will delight in the wonders of island culture and ocean life, taking time off from their screens to enjoy breathtaking scenery and adventure. Parents can bask in the sun, enjoying some much-needed relaxation, while the kids play in the shallow, clear waters and build sandcastles by their feet.
If you’d like to go fishing with your kids, but don’t want to commit to a full day out on the water, we recommend visiting a public dock – visitors are welcome to fish at most local docks in Marsh Harbour, Treasure Cay, and Hope Town. Regardless of where you decide to drop a line, if you plan to fish without a licensed guide it is recommended that you look into the Fishing Rules and Regulations, and consider asking a local dive shop or charter guide with any questions during your trip. Once you get situated fishing, your kids will love the experience of catching their first fish, and you can identify fish together using a simple fishing guide.
Parents can also look into the Bahama Buddies Program for their younger ones to experience the island from the local perspective. This program pairs local children with Abaco visitors to explore the island together, learning firsthand how the community lives, and trying out popular island activities, like catching and cleaning fish, cracking conch and making island crafts. The Abaco Beach Resort hosts the program and participants always walk away with fun memorabilia, photos and exciting stories to tell those back home.
After a fun-filled vacation, top it off with a sweet treat that you know the whole family will enjoy. The Island Bakery in Marsh Harbour is a perfect place to cool off while enjoying baked bread and pastries that have delighted guests for decades. Cafe La Florence in Treasure Cay is another great option for the sweet tooth in your family. They’re famous in the islands for their freshly baked cinnamon rolls, which are big enough for two.
From its quaint beaches and tropical adventures to its tasty treats, the Abacos is the perfect place for the ultimate family trip. Avoid the summer crowds often found at the Bahamas’ main tourist hotspots and choose to take an Abacos vacation instead. Start your trip off with Air Unlimited to by-pass long lines and packed planes, so your trip is hassle-free from start to finish! Book online today and check out our coupon books here.

Take a flight to the Bahamas to celebrate Bahamian Independence Day
Bahamas Independence Day is quickly approaching, and the locals are gearing up for week-long celebrations. This holiday commemorates the day when the Bahamas became a fully independent nation, separating from the United Kingdom on July 10, 1973. Catch a flight to the Bahamas with Air Unlimited and be part of another year of historic celebrations.
The Bahamas underwent 325 years of British rule. It was a long and mostly peaceful process, and in 1964, Great Britain granted The Islands of The Bahamas limited self-government. This was after years of legal maneuvering and debates. In 1969, the Bahamas finally became a British Commonwealth, which effectively ended colonial rule. Four years later, the Bahama Islands gained complete independence from Great Britain and became its own nation on July 10, 1973. Today, the Bahamas remain a member of The Commonwealth of Nations.
Independence Day on the islands is celebrated for a week leading up to July 10th with a mix of parties and official government events. Carnival parades and Junkanoo are celebrated across the hundreds of Bahamian islands. Junkanoo – a combination of costumes, music, and dance – is an integral part of Bahamian celebrations like Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. The origin of Junkanoo is still debated on frequently, but one thing is certain: the celebrations are spectacular. Colorful costumes made of cardboard and crepe paper take the streets by storm with music made by goatskin drums, cowbells, whistles, and horns.
No celebration is complete without food and drinks. Happy hour at Pete’s Pub in Little Harbour is a crowd favorite where you can get fresh seafood and a tropical drink overlooking the ocean. Gaffner’s in Elbow Cay is another favorite local spot with daily seafood and drink specials, and live music located waterside at the Seaspray Resort & Marina. If you’re looking for a something more relaxing, or a way to recover from the festivities, Hope Town Inn & Marina offers yoga every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday morning. It’s the perfect way to start your day, balanced and ready to gear up for the island fun.
Flights and hotels book fast in the Bahamas during times of celebration, so don’t miss out on a flight to the Bahamas this July. This is the perfect opportunity to be immersed in Bahamian culture and still find time to relax in the tranquil Abaco islands. Call +1 407-585-4300 to join the fun!

From Kenya to Flights to the Abaco Islands
Alan Rodney Griffin has lived all over the globe, and three of his passions have remained consistent throughout his travels: aviation, Africa and his faith. There were many times over the course of his career where these passions overlapped in his work as a pilot. Air Unlimited is happy to have this seasoned pilot offering flights to the Abaco Islands from the Orlando-Sanford International Airport.
Alan’s passion for flying started when he was just 11 years old. He watched a film strip about missionaries who were killed in Ecuador with Nate Saint as their pilot. Saint’s bravery and commitment inspired Alan at a very young age, and he strived to consistently embody these traits throughout his career. He began his journey to become a pilot in 1968 after leaving his home in the UK to live in South Africa. He began teaching at St. Mary’s School in Nairobi where he taught the current President of Kenya, Uhuru Kenyatta. He tirelessly worked and saved up enough money to pursue his dreams.
By 1974 he received his private pilot license in Kenya. Alan, a man of many passions, knew it was time to move on to his next goal. Before he was able to teach in Nairobi, Alan had to go through a teacher training course. He was satisfied with this career, but he had aspirations to attend a university and expand his knowledge of aviation, which would provide more opportunities. One year after earning his private pilot license, Alan moved to Texas to attend Le Tourneau University. This was the start of even greater things for Alan. He received a Bachelor of Science in aviation and bible studies, met his wife Ruth and began working at the Gregg County Airport in Longview, Texas.
His commitment to aviation education led Alan back to Africa once again. He continued his flight training and worked in commercial aviation in Kenya. During his time there, Alan used every flight as a learning experience. This is a method of thought he still practices to this day.
Now, Alan, Ruth and their two oldest children live in Orlando. Alan’s newest venture is working with Air Unlimited piloting flights to the Abaco Islands. As a contract pilot, he has made many flights to the Abaco Islands, but he is looking forward to traveling there for pleasure instead of work. Prior to working with Air Unlimited, Alan had only visited Treasure Cay, Staniel Cay and Exuma for a photoshoot of the EADS Socata TBM 850, a high performance single engine turboprop.
In Alan’s many successful years as a pilot, he has yet to visit one destination that he can call his absolute favorite. He does have one major life goal in mind, though. New Zealand is more than 8,000 miles from Orlando over open ocean, but with dedication, Alan hopes to find a way to pilot a plane there. He has more goals on the horizon like piloting more gliders, amphibian flying, and learning how to fly a helicopter. It’s easy for him to stay motivated and inspired while working with Air Unlimited. He also keeps a healthy work-life balance and spends time gardening, exercising, helping his church, and of course being a couch potato when the opportunity presents itself.
Keep an eye out for Alan on your next flight to the Abaco Islands! If you’re looking for a good story, don’t hesitate to ask him about his many travels abroad.

Dave Owen: From Flight School to Aircraft Charter
Aviation has always been important to Air Unlimited Pilot, Dave Owen, so it was no surprise that he enrolled in private pilot ground school at just 16 years old. His grandparents opened the very first airport in his hometown of Wabash, IN, and Dave spent much of his time there watching and learning anything he could. After completing ground school, Dave planned to continue his education and attend flight school, but was unable to afford it at the time. After a few years of hard work and a strict money-saving plan, he was finally able to continue following his dreams, and he graduated from flight school at the young age of 26. This gave him the necessary experience and qualifications to fly everything Air Unlimited offers, from scheduled service to aircraft charters.
While never letting his passion for flying falter, Dave also decided he wanted to follow another passion path he had grown up envisioning. He worked in law enforcement for many years, keeping his community safe. Once he retired from the police force, he knew it was time to make aviation his life priority once again. Dave feels like he truly found his place at Air Unlimited and definitely isn’t complaining about the perks of the job. He had never been to the Abacos before joining the Air Unlimited team, but island life quickly became something he fell in love with. He began embracing his adventurous side and started boating, water skiing and even barefoot skiing, every chance he had. In fact, he loves water skiing so much that he’d love to become a coach in the unlikely event that he ever loses his passion for flying. However, enjoying island life isn’t the only part of the job that Dave loves. He says the customers and his colleagues at Air Unlimited are what make the job outstanding.
Dave also keeps a very healthy work-life balance, which is important while working in one of the most stressful industries in America. He always tries to go swimming or work out after particularly stressful days and take many vacations with his family. Dave’s perfect vacation would be anywhere in the world with his wife and all of his kids. He has vacationed in Treasure Cay and Green Turtle Cay, and he can’t wait to explore more local towns during his time off. He also hopes to bring his dogs on the next vacation, as they are now “seasoned” flight dogs.
Dave says his next destination will be anywhere that has plenty of sun, sand and surf. Lucky for him, Air Unlimited is expanding its service to North Eleuthera in the Bahamas Out Islands in April 2018. Look for Dave on your next flight with Air Unlimited!
